Perhaps the inquiry I get the most at my office is about Candida. About 1 out of every 3 phone calls I receive is a person suspecting that they are suffering from Candida.

Actually there are 14 known strains of Candida, with Albicans and Tropicalis being the most common. So what is Candida? How do you get it? Most importantly how do you get rid of it?

Candida is actually a yeast found normally in small amounts in your gut. When the helpful bacteria are there, and doing their job properly, the yeast actually doesn't cause any health issues.

If something changes that balance like: taking antibiotics, being on birth control pills or hormone replacement, being sexually active and sharing body fluids with another person, and even sharing food and drinks with others (who have Candida already), you will most likely end up with systemic yeast (Candida) in time.

What actually happens is that the environment of the gut becomes unfriendly to the helpful bacteria and so they die. Unfortunately it becomes an environment that is extremely friendly to yeast, and so they multiply at an amazing rate. This change in environment also changes the actual lining of the gut. They end up with tiny little holes, allowing the yeast and its byproduct (a toxin similar to an opiate) to leak out of the gut (leaky gut syndrome) going all over the body, eventually laying down a layer around the brain itself.

There are many symptoms associated with systemic Candida. All types of digestive problems, like heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, IBS and more. Many people complain of muscle and joint pain, headaches, increases in allergies, susceptibility to viruses and colds, fatigue, depression, anxiety, hormonal issues, brain fog and more. Everyone’s symptoms are different.

The good news is that I have treated over 900 patients who have come to me with Candida, and have been able to help the majority of them get better and stay Candida free. How is this done? It is a combination of testing hundreds of foods and chemicals, finding individual sensitivities and having that patient stay away from them for a period of time.

Then I correct structural imbalances on multiple levels, as well as reestablishing normal brain function and communication with the body. Lastly, you are tested on many nutrients and then put on the ones your body needs, along with an individualized three week diet. Everything is noninvasive and specifically designed for your body’s particular health needs.

Yes, most people do have Candida, both children and adults, but everyone can get better if they want to.
